My Story.. by JG Mind Doodles
I started drawing using the sketchbookpro app back in 2017. I always doubted my work and never shared it publicly. I’ve struggled with depression and anxiety for a long time and was always afraid of what comments might be made.
This year a lot changed in my life which gave me a whole new outlook. I had a moment back in August 2017 where I felt proud of something I’d drawn and decided to post to my Facebook page. I figured it didn’t matter if no one else liked my work because it made me happy and that’s what mattered. The Internet can be a pretty negative place at times but for a brief moment I had no fear of what others might think or say.
The drawing had such a positive response that I began to share more. People sent me kind words and a lot of positivity suddenly came my way. People wanted to buy prints and pictures and asked if I would create pieces for albums and music videos. With more and more requests coming in I decided to donate profits to Mind, The mental health charity, hoping that somehow I might be able to help others. This encouraged me to draw more and I found an almost meditative state whilst I was drawing, allowing me to process thoughts and feelings which I like to think come across in my drawings.
I’ve since moved on to using an app called Procreate to draw my latest pictures, I can not recommend it enough.
If you’ve got a skill or have done something you’re proud of, take the chance and share, and you never know what may come of it. I’m loving the amount of really awesome artwork that’s out there all across the world being created and shared as a way of ending the stigma surrounding mental health.
I never thought I’d be in such a positive place again and can’t thank you all enough for all the support you’ve shown.
